Members of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce:

It has been a great week as we march toward recovery. West Texas Intermediate Crude oil prices for June delivery is back to nearly $35 per barrel. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up almost a thousand points this week. New mortgage applications are just shy of where they were this time last year… up from a 35% year over year decline just last month. The State of Texas continues to reopen businesses with the Governor’s announcement that we are now entering Phase 2 of the state’s plan to restore the economy. Phase 2 allows gyms, non-essential manufacturing, and work offices to reopen provided COVID-19 CDC protocols are followed and maintain a 25% capacity limit. Promising vaccinations are entering human trials and forecasts for near- term deployment of vaccines are becoming more common and credible. In Tom Green County, our COVID-19 incident rate remains low and stable.

While the progress has been dramatic, we all must continue to keep our guard up. Maintaining social distancing, the wearing of masks and the following of hygiene protocols is more important now than ever. COVID-19 is still in our community. As quickly as we have seen economic progress, we could see this improvement erased if we experience a rapid increase in the incident rate. Let’s all keep up the great work by following the rules. If we do so, we will continue to make headway and quickly move to normalcy and beyond!

Speaking of progress… our Ribbon Connecting Celebrations are filling up our calendar and they are a lot of fun! Like a Ribbon Cutting, the Ribbon Connecting Celebration brings members of the Chamber staff, the Concho Cadre and the community to your business to celebrate your re-connection to the community. If you are reopening and want to get the word out, schedule your event by contacting Heather at heather@sanangelo.org or call (325) 655-4136.
