Members of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce:
It has been an interesting week at the Chamber so let me bring you all up to speed with what is going on.
We continue to work hard to provide you with all the latest information on both the current restrictions and the coming recovery efforts. This past week our weekly webinar series featured Mr. Randy LeCompte of the Texas Work Force Commission. We learned a great deal about their services as well as the status and process associated with unemployment insurance. Many thanks to Randy and the team for bringing us this important information.
This past week we also hosted a virtual town hall meeting with Senator Ted Cruz. The topics of discussion were wide-ranging, and the session was well attended. My bottom-line takeaways from the Senator are as follows:
- There will be continued pressure applied to pass the Phase 4 Stimulus package, and there is optimism that this measure will be concluded relatively shortly.
- In order to counter the negative effects to the West Texas economy, there would be continued pressure on the Saudis, including a “trust but verify” stance on compliance with commitments on oil production cuts.
- There will be a fundamental and long-lasting change with how we do business with the Chinese.
We will continue to hold informational webinars every Friday and will also schedule ad hoc sessions as appropriate. We encourage our membership to take advantage of these opportunities to learn about what efforts are underway to mitigate the negative effects in the near term and to facilitate recovery in the longer term.
Speaking of recovery, the Chamber team is actively engaged with the recently established Economic Response and Recovery Group to develop our local strategy for economic recovery. This multi-organizational committee includes representatives from the six main San Angelo economic development organizations: City of San Angelo Development Corporation (COSADC), the ASU Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Texas Workforce Development Board, Tom Green County, Concho Valley Council of Governments (CVCOG) and the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce. We are in regular dialogue and the planning process is well underway. Stay tuned for further developments as we collectively address the challenges and the opportunities that we will face as we move to re-open our economy.
We encourage all membership to take full advantage of the many programs available to assist you during these challenging times. The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) is especially important for our small businesses. Please let us know if you have any questions about this program. We would also appreciate your feedback on how this program is working for you.
We are also continuing to update, via social media and our website, how you all are presently operating to serve your customers amidst the currently restrictive environment. If you would like to convey any changes in your business hours or method of operations, let us know and we will help spread the word.
We will continue to communicate regularly by all means available. Please know that your input regarding you and your business remains critical, as we are constantly working on providing relevant and essential information to support our members. If you are able, we would welcome an update on how you are doing. We also ask that you take a moment to like and follow us on Facebook and check out our website, www.sanangelo.org, for new information, as we are frequently updating our resources page. I have included my email and personal cell phone number below. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
In the meantime, stay safe and keep well…We deeply appreciate you all.
