Members of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce:
We are continuing to win in San Angelo! Our month over month sales tax revenue performance was outstanding, with a growth of 15.77% over the same time period last year. Yes, you read that correctly… even during the COVID-19 pandemic we actually did significantly better than we did last year that this time. By contrast, Odessa recorded a -34.42% in sales tax revenue for the same time period. We are continuing to see strong performance in the housing sector and our unemployment rate is continuing to fall. As a city we have pulled together and we re realizing the blessings of our mutual commitment. My wife MG and I continue to be proud to be a part of such a fantastic community.
We are continuing to see an uptick in the both the incident rate and hospitalizations for COVID-19, and while the city remains on yellow status please continue to use care and caution with your social interactions. The Chamber office and the Visitors Center are being disinfected and we will be closed until noon on November 12.
We had our annual Celebration of Diversity Awards luncheon this week and it was great! I was so honored to be a part of the ceremony that recognized our businesses that were outstanding in their support for diversity in our community. Kudos to Danielle & Lewis Rodarte with Main Street Nutrition, Ami Mizell-Flint with San Angelo Clubhouse, Diarmid Campbell with the IBEW Local Union 520, and Yolanda Franco with Western Sky Steakhouse. We were so pleased to celebrate the diversity that is San Angelo.
Our golf outing, The Chamber Classic, is back and better than ever! Join us on November 16 at Bentwood Country Club. The event is quickly filling up, but some sponsorship opportunities are still available, and we still have room for plenty more foursomes. Contact us today for more information or click here!
Planning continues for our exciting, new-and-improved Chamber Holiday Expo. The December 1 event will have a “shop local for the holidays” theme and will feature a totally re-imagined program. We want all our membership to have a great holiday season and this event will be a great way to reconnect with the community during this festive time of the year!
